Why clay?

My choice of using clay stems from both its ubiquity on this world and its capacity to inspire care. I find clay to be incredibly versatile, both in its native forms drawn from local sources, and its deeply historical roots as an important innovation in human evolution. Narrative is both explicitly and implicitly explored in my sculptures and environments, and my research in graduate school has been centered around the mass extinction event we are experiencing. My ceramics also utilize sound, animation, drawing, and video work  to channel the viewer experience toward a closer connection with the other.
